Business of egoism
While scrolling Twitter recently, I saw an indie hacker showing that he made more than 100 000 $ in one week selling avatars. The concept: Provide different images of yourself and get back 100 AI-generated pictures of you in different situations. As a troll, as a knight, as a Taxi driver. The importance was that as it was about YOU.
Later on, I was surprised that everyone was sharing their Spotify Wrapped on their Instagram stories or Twitter. The focus again in those Spotify Wrapped was YOU. What you like, what you did, and what you listened to.
I am not naïve. I know that people are interested in themselves first. What makes me think is how.
At what point do we like ourselves so much that we loose it when something place us in the center of attention? What do people ready to give to learn about themselves or see themselves in a certain situations? And how much can a business take advantage of that?
For Spotify, it’s free marketing. For the indie hacker, it was a whole business around it. What are the other examples?
I recently heard the sentence “Narcistic failures”, and it feels that businesses know how to take advantage of it.
While waiting to investigate the subject deeply, I can already say that they are powerful.
